Baron Basset of Drayton

Baron Basset of Drayton (also Baron Basset de Drayton ) was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

The family seat of the barons was Drayton Hall near Drayton Bassett in Staffordshire .

Award

The title was first created during the Second War of the Barons as Barony by writ for Sir Ralph Basset , when he was called to De Montfort's Parliament on December 24, 1264 by Writ of Summons . Since the title arose in the rebellion against the king and the baron fell in 1265 at Evesham in the fight against the royal, this creation of the title is in part not considered legally effective - the ordinal number of the other barons then shifts accordingly.

Basset's son of the same name later regained the favor of the king and was convened to the royal parliament on June 23, 1295 by the Writ of Summons . At the latest this constituted the title legally effective. His successors as baron were his son and his grandson, on whose death on May 10, 1390 the title fell in Abeyance .
