Earl of Meath
Earl of Meath is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
The Earls family residence is Kilruddery House near Bray in County Wicklow .
Award
The title was created on April 16, 1627 for the Anglo-Irish nobleman William Brabazon, 2nd Baron Ardee . The title was bestowed with the special addition that in the absence of male descendants it could also be passed on to his younger brother, the Hon. Sir Anthony Brabazon († 1636).
Subordinate title
The 1st Earl had inherited the subordinate title Baron Brabazon , of Ardee , ("Lord Brabazon, Baron of Ardee") from his father in 1625 , which had been awarded to this on July 19, 1616 in the Peerage of Ireland. The later 3rd Earl and also the later 6th Earl were appointed by Writ of Acceleration as Baron Brabazon to the Irish House of Lords on October 30, 1665 and March 9, 1715 and thereby inherited the title of baron from their father prematurely.
The 10th Earl was also given the title Baron Chaworth , of Eaton Hall in the County of Hereford , in the Peerage of the United Kingdom on September 10, 1831 . In contrast to the Irish titles, this was associated with a hereditary seat in the British House of Lords until 1999 .
