Awards

The title was first created on April 20, 1661 in the Peerage of England for Sir George Booth, 2nd Baronet . This had already in 1652 from his grandfather Sir George Booth, 1st Baronet (1566-1652), inherited the title of Baronet , of Dunham Massey in the County of Chester, which had been awarded to this on May 22, 1611 in the Baronetage of England . His son, the 2nd Baron, was also elevated to Earl of Warrington on April 17, 1690 in the Peerage of England . The earldom expired on the death of his son, the 2nd Earl, on August 2, 1758. The barony and baronetcy fell to his cousin Nathaniel Booth as 4th baron, on whose death on January 9, 1770 the barony also expired. The Baronetcy fell to his second cousin Rev. George Booth (1724–1797) as the 6th Baronet and went out on his death on November 7, 1797.

On April 22, 1796, the title was created in the second bestowal in the Peerage of Great Britain, together with the parent title Earl of Warrington , in the County Palatine of Lancaster , for George Gray, 5th Earl of Stamford . He was a grandson of the late 2nd Earl of Warrington through his mother and inherited the title Earl of Stamford from his father in 1768 , along with a subordinate title. The Barony of Delamer and the Earldom of Warrington expired on the death of his great-grandson, the 7th Earl of Stamford, on January 2, 1883. The Earl of Stamford and the remaining titles fell to his second cousin Harry Gray, 8th Earl of Stamford (1812-1890).
