Baron Stanley of Alderley , of Alderley in the County of Chester is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created by Letters patent dated May 9, 1839 for Sir John Stanley, 7th Baronet . This had been since 1807 the Stanley baronetcy, of Alderley Hall in the County of Chester held that in the days barons of England for his ancestors on June 25, 1660 Thomas Stanley a younger son of Thomas Stanley, 1st Baron Stanley , had been created .

Other titles

The later 2nd Baron Stanley of Alderley had been awarded the title of Baron Eddisbury , of Winnington in the County Palatine of Chester, on May 12, 1848 . The title also belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

In 1909, on the death of his distant relative Henry Holroyd, 3rd Earl of Sheffield , the 4th Baron Stanley of Alderley and 3rd Baron Eddisbury inherited his subordinate title Baron Sheffield , of Roscommon in the County of Roscommon , who was in the peerage on September 20, 1783 of Ireland was created.
