At the same time as the Barony was first awarded, the title Baron Gerard , of Brandon in the County of Suffolk, was newly created for Charles Gerard on November 8, 1645 in the Peerage of England , in recognition of his services as Royal Equestrian General in the English Civil War . In 1854 he had inherited the subordinate title of Baronet , of Gerard of Bryn in the County of Lancaster, from his late brother, which had been conferred on one of his ancestors on May 22, 1611 in the Baronetage of England.
