Henry Gray, 1st Earl of Stamford

Earl of Stamford was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

Historic family houses of the Earls were Bradgate House (16th century) , Dunham Massey Hall and Bradgate House (19th century) .

Award, subordinate and other titles

The title was created on March 26, 1628 for Henry Gray, 2nd Baron Gray of Groby . Already in 1614 he had inherited the title of Baron Gray of Groby , in the County of Leicester , from his father , which was bestowed on him on July 21, 1603 by Letters patent .

For his great-great-grandson, the 5th Earl of Stamford, the titles Earl of Warrington and Baron Delamer were newly created on April 22, 1796 in the Peerage of Great Britain . His maternal grandfather, George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington , held these titles, which expired in 1758 and 1770, until 1758. The two titles created in 1796 lapsed on the death of his great-grandson, the 7th Earl of Stamford, on January 2, 1883. The Earldom Earl of Stamford and the Barony Gray of Groby fell to his second cousin as the 8th Earl of Stamford.

The eldest son of the 6th Earl inherited on January 15, 1833 through Writ of Acceleration prematurely, while his father was still alive, his subordinate title 8th Baron Gray of Groby , but died before his father, so that he did not also have the remaining title inherited and the barony reverted to his father.

With the death of the 10th Earl, Roger Gray , on August 18, 1976, the titles finally expired.
