Earl of Harrowby in the County of Lincoln , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The Earls' family seat is Sandon Hall near Stafford in Staffordshire .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on July 18, 1809 for Dudley Ryder, 2nd Baron Harrowby , along with the subordinate title Viscount Sandon . He had previously been Secretary of State under William Pitt . He later served as Lord President of the Council for 15 years .

In 1803 he had inherited from his father the henceforth also subordinate title Baron Harrowby , of Harrowby in the County of Lincoln, which had been awarded to this on May 20, 1776 in the Peerage of Great Britain .

The heir to the title is the current earl's eldest son, Hugo Ryder, Viscount Sandon (* 1981).
