Baron Hotham
Baron Hotham , of South Dalton in the County of York , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
The family seat of the barons is Dalton Hall near Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire .
Award
The title was awarded to Admiral William Hotham on March 17, 1797 . He was the fifth son of Sir Beaumont Hotham, 7th Baronet. The award was made with the special addition that in the absence of male descendants of his own, the title could also be inherited by his brothers and their male descendants. In July 1811 he inherited from his nephew the subordinate title 11th Baronet , of Scorborough in the County of York, which had been awarded to his great-great-grandfather John Hotham († 1645) on January 4, 1622 in the Baronetage of England.
Since the 1st baron remained childless, his brother Beaumont Hotham inherited him as 2nd baron in 1795. Today's title holder has been his great-great-great-grandson Henry Hotham as the 8th Baron since 1967 .
