Baron Howick of Glendale

Baron Howick of Glendale , of Howick in the County of Northumberland , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was created on February 8, 1960 for Sir Evelyn Baring of the Baring family . He had been the governor of various British colonies, especially Kenya from 1952 to 1959 .

Other titles of the family

The Baring family, of which a branch also lives in Germany, had grown rich as bankers ( Barings Bank ). Various members of the family were raised to the nobility. As a result, members of one branch of the family are often entitled to inherit another title.

This applies to the Barons Howick of Glendale with regard to the title of Earl of Cromer and the subordinate titles which had been bestowed on the father of the first baron, as well as to the dignity of the Baronet of London, now a subordinate title of Baron Northbrook .
