Baron McGowan , of Ardeer in the County of Ayr , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The Barons' family residence is Highway House in Froyle in East Hampshire .

Award

The title was bestowed through a letters patent dated February 24, 1937 to Sir Harry McGowan , the long-time chairman of the board of the chemical company Imperial Chemical Industries .

The current title holder as 4th Baron, his great-grandson Harry John Charles McGowan , is a son of Lady Gillian Angela Pepys, a daughter of John Pepys, 7th Earl of Cottenham .

Probable heir to the title ( Heir Presumptive ) is Dominic James Wilson McGowan (* 1951), the uncle of the current title holder.
