East Hampshire is a district in the county of Hampshire in England . The administrative seat is Petersfield ; other important places are Alton , Bentley , Binsted , Catherington , Clanfield and Horndean .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and resulted from the merger of the Urban Districts Alton and Petersfield and the Rural Districts Alton and Petersfield.
