Bentley is a place and a parish in the East Hampshire district in the English county of Hampshire . Bentley has 1,116 inhabitants (2011).

Geography and traffic

The village lies on the northern Quellarm the River Wey , on the highway A31 between Farnham in Surrey and Alton in Hampshire, about eight kilometers west of Farnham and ten kilometers east of Alton. Bentley is on the railway line and has a train station ( Bentley Railway Station ), which is about two kilometers south in Binsted.

Personalities

Bentley's personalities include the founder of the scout movement, Robert Baden-Powell . Baden-Powell lived with his wife Olave in Bentley in their family seat Pax Hill . Harold Sanderson, the owner of the White Star Line , learned of the Titanic disaster in 1912 at his Jenkyn Place home in Bentley .

Bentley is known around the world for one of the first documentary soaps ( The Village ), which was broadcast by the British radio station Radio 4 and TV company ITV in the 1990s. The television report showed residents and their everyday life.

Bentley has two pubs : The Star (named after the car brand Star of Durant Motors ) and The Bull .
