Harold Sanderson

Harold Arthur Sanderson (* 1859 in Bebington , England ; † February 26, 1932 in Rapallo , Italy ) was a British businessman and director of the White Star Line at the time of the Titanic disaster in 1912.

Sanderson was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the White Star Line and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Mercantile Marine Company (IMMC). He held this office for fifteen years, from 1913 to 1928, following the resignation of J. Bruce Ismay in 1912.

Harold A. Sanderson, son of Richard Sanderson from London, who founded Sanderson & Son in 1878 , was born in Bebington, Cheshire , England in 1859 to a family of great British and American seafarers. Sanderson replaced his father in his role as head of the company for ten years. However, in 1893 he became managing director of Wilson & Sons . From then on he lived in Bentley , Hampshire .

In 1895 Sanderson became managing director of the White Star Line and in 1899 he became a partner in Ismay, Imrie & Co. He became the first vice president of IMM in 1902. He was also a board member, in many cases also chairman of the board of Shaw, Savill & Albion, Ltd. ; Atlantic Transport Company, Ltd. ; Frederick Leyland & Co., Ltd. ; International Navigation Company, Ltd. , and other shipping companies. In 1909 he was President of the Liverpool Shipbrokers' Benevolent Society . He received the title of Honorary Captain from the Royal Naval Reserve .
