Test Valley is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Hampshire in England , named after the valley of the River Test . The administrative seat is Andover ; other important places are Ampfield , Amport , Charlton , North Baddesley , Romsey , Thruxton and Wellow .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and resulted from the merger of the boroughs Andover and Romsey and the rural districts Andover and Romsey and Stockbridge.
