Basingstoke and Deane is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Hampshire in England . In addition to the city of Basingstoke, the district also includes some surrounding villages such as Bramley , Oakley , Overton , Steventon , Tadley and Whitchurch . Deane is the name of a small hamlet 11 km south of Basingstoke.

history

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of the Borough of Basingstoke , Basingstoke Rural District and Whitchurch Rural District .

Town twinning

There has been a twinning between Basingstoke and Deane and the German district town of Euskirchen since 1986 . Other twin cities are Alençon in France (since 1968) and Braine-l'Alleud in Belgium (since 1979).
