The stained book publisher was founded in Hamburg in 1980 and existed until 1987. editors of the first hour were Peter Lohmann and Ümit Güney , Lohmann was part of the founding group, had the publisher but left in 1985, Güney followed. The editing was successfully restructured by Gabriele Haefs and Gitta Gramkow.

Short profile

During the founding phase, there were close ties to the politically active J. Reents Verlag , from which Buntbuch took over some authors such as Nâzım Hikmet when it was founded . The publishing team emancipated itself very quickly and presented an independent publishing profile. Buntbuch published a number of taboo subjects, both fiction and non-fiction, and also had a special focus on topics related to Turkey. His most famous book in the early days was the feminist confessional novel The Death of the Prince Charming by Svende Merian . An important book in the final phase was Sarons Haut by Hamburg-based Norwegian Ingvar Amjörnsen.

history

The background of some founders was the idea of increasing the KB's ability to form alliances in the green-alternative electoral movement as well as in the social movements by establishing a more open publishing program that also includes fiction titles . From the beginning, however, there was tension in the founding groups. After a few years, these tensions led to the independence of any accompanying organization. As far as the envisaged versatility of the published spectrum is concerned, Buntbuch-Verlag was able to implement the self-imposed claim. The publisher's most commercially successful title, The Death of Prince Charming by Svende Merian, was seen in the 1980s as an essential contribution to the discussion of feminist content within the left and the alternative movement. In addition, Buntbuch-Verlag published the vagabond autobiography, in the tradition of classic workers' literature à la Upton Sinclair , My Life Belongs to Me by Jonny Rieger , various titles by the Turkish author Nazim Hikmet in German first edition, German-Turkish writers such as Güney Dal , Aysel Özakin and Alev Tekinay , a novel by Hamburg-based Norwegian Ingvar Ambjørnsen ( Sarons Haut ), the debut of Jakob Arjouni's Frankfurt crime trilogy ( Happy Birthday, Turk ), the satirist Henning Venske and a number of other authors and titles.

Despite successful journalistic success and the financially profitable Prince Charming , Buntbuch-Verlag was unable to keep up economically and finally had to file for bankruptcy at the end of the 1980s. Some titles were subsequently reprinted by other publishers, including Der Tod des Märchenprinzen ( Rowohlt ), Happy Birthday, Türke! ( Diogenes ) and Saron's skin ( S. Fischer Verlag ).
