Baron Penrhyn

Baron Penrhyn is a hereditary British title of nobility , which was awarded once in the Peerage of Ireland and once in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The family seat of the barons of both awards was Penrhyn Castle near Llandygai in Gwynedd , Wales .

Awards

The title was first created on November 19, 1783 in the Peerage of Ireland for former House of Commons Richard Pennant . The title expired on his death on January 21, 1808.

In the second bestowal , the title of Baron Penrhyn , of Llandegai in the County of Carnarvon , was created on August 3, 1866 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom for former MP Edward Douglas-Pennant . His father-in-law was a great-nephew and heir to the baron's first bestowal. He was also a brother of George Douglas, 17th Earl of Morton . Today's title holder has been his descendant Simon Douglas-Pennant as the 7th Baron since 2003 .
