Baron Petre
Baron Petre , of Writtle in the County of Essex , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .
The title was created by Letters patent dated July 21, 1603 for Sir John Petre . He was the House of Commons for Essex and Lord Lieutenant of Essex, and the brother of Dorothy Wadham , co-founder of Wadham College . Today his descendant John Petre, 18th Baron Petre , holds the title, he has also been Lord Lieutenant of Essex since 2002.
The Barons' ancestral home is at Ingatestone Hall near Chelmsford in Essex.
