Writtle is a village in the English county of Essex and is about three kilometers west of Chelmsford . The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book and was once the site of a royal hunting lodge. The church dates from the time of the Normans . In 1302 the future Scottish King Robert the Bruce married his second wife Elizabeth de Burgh there .
