George Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, 1st Baron Ravensdale

Baron Ravensdale , of Ravensdale in the County of Derby , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was created on November 2, 1911 for the conservative politician and former Viceroy of India George Curzon, 1st Baron Curzon . This was raised at the same time to Earl Curzon of Kedleston and Viscount Scarsdale and ten years later, on June 28, 1921, then to Marquess Curzon of Kedleston .

Since Curzon had no male descendants but three daughters, the title Baron Ravensdale was given the special note that it could also be passed on to Curzon's daughters and their male descendants. When he died, it was passed on to the eldest daughter Mary Irene , then to the son of the second daughter and is now carried by his grandson.

The 2nd Baroness was raised to Life Peeress in 1958 because of her charitable services as Baroness Ravensdale of Kedleston , of Kedleston in the County of Derby . This gave her a seat in the House of Lords , which was only possible for the bearers of hereditary titles from the Peerage Act 1963 .

The 3rd Baron inherited in 1980 from his father Sir Oswald Mosley, 6th Baronet , the subordinate title of Baronet , of Ancoats in the County of Lancaster , which had been conferred in 1781 in the Baronetage of Great Britain.
