Baron Selsdon

Baron Selsdon , of Croydon in the County of Surrey , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . It is named after Selsdon , a district of London .

Award

The title was created in 1932 for the conservative politician Sir William Mitchell-Thomson, 2nd Baronet . He had been a member of the House of Commons since 1906 and Postmaster General of the United Kingdom from 1924 to 1929 .

Another title

The first baron's father was a well-known Edinburgh businessman . From 1897 to 1900 he was Lord Provost there . In 1900 he was promoted to Baronet , of Polmood in the County of Peebles . This title, which belongs to the Baronetage of the United Kingdom , is held by the respective baron.
