Baron St. Amand

Baron Saint Amand was a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of England .

Awards

The title was first created for Almaric (de) St Amand on December 29, 1299 , when King Edward I appointed him to Parliament via Writ of Summons . The title expired on his childless death on July 29, 1310.

His land was inherited by his brother, John St Amand , to whom the title was reassigned on March 22, 1313 by the Writ of Summons of King Edward II . In the literature he is occasionally counted as the de facto successor to the Baron of the first award also as 2nd Baron St Amand, the ordinal number of his successors then shifts accordingly. At the death of John's grandson, the 3rd Baron, on June 13, 1402, the title in Abeyance fell between his younger daughter Ida and Gerard Braybrooke, the son of his late older daughter Alianore. With Ida's childless death on December 15, 1416, Gerard obtained the claim to the title as the sole heir, he died on April 15, 1422 without the title being validly granted to him and the title claim fell in Abeyance between his daughters. His eldest daughter Elizabeth Braybrooke obtained in 1428 as sole heir the claim to the title, which with Writ of Summons of January 2, 1449 for her husband William Beauchamp of Powyk de iure uxoris restored. The title finally fell on the death of his son, Richard Beauchamp, in July 1508 again in Abeyance between the descendants of the sister of the 2nd Baron, Isabella.
