Barony of Rosendal
The Barony of Rosendal is the only barony in Norway . It is located in Rosendal ( municipality Kvinnherad ).
Originally the Barony Rosendal was the Hatteberg estate and a wedding present for Karen Mowat , then Norway's richest heiress, and Ludvig Rosenkrantz when they married in 1658. The castle was completed in 1665 and King Christian V of Denmark-Norway made the estate a barony in 1678. It has been owned by the University of Oslo since 1927 .
Today the barony is a museum. Interesting is the Pompei room with imprints of friezes from the excavations of Pompei . Next to it the yellow hall in the Norwegian Empire style. The double ax and armor of Magnus VII. Eriksson are exhibited here alongside an extensive collection of coins and securities . The old Renaissance - Garden today with roses planted and connects seamlessly with the designed in the mid-19th century romantic landscape garden. The location of the barony between the Melderskin and Malmangernuten mountains is impressive , a motif that was painted by many Norwegian romantic painters.
