Lists on the subject

The Barrett M95 (also known as Model 95M) is a .50 BMG -Kaliber- anti-materiel rifle of the US producer Barrett Firearms Manufacturing .

The M95 has been in production since 1995 and is a further development of the Barrett M90 , which was primarily a simpler and cheaper version of the Barrett M82A1 military sniper rifle for civilian purposes . In contrast to the well-known M82, the M95, like the M90, has a bullpup design and is not a self-loading machine. With the bullpup design, the overall length of the weapon is shorter with the same barrel length. For this reason, the trigger was moved 25 mm forward in order to adapt the ergonomics of the weapon to it. Other changes are the hard chrome-plated barrel, the slightly modified bolt handle and minor improvements in the trigger mechanism.

The weapon works on the Mauser locking system principle with a five-shot magazine and is therefore a repeating rifle.

The M95 rifle essentially consists of the barrel with housing, the base plate, the trigger, the breech block and the bipod. The base plate and the trigger housing are modular and stiffen the housing. The housing consists of two lightweight steel parts that are fixed with two pins. The upper half contains the M1913 interchangeable rail for the optical sights. The bolt carrier consists of two machine-made parts and slides in two guide rails in the lower housing. The massive slide is locked with three locking lugs in the barrel. The bipod was based on that of the M60 .

In 1999 the US Army compared the M95 and the XM107 (technical forerunner of the later versions of the M82 / M107, but also a repeating rifle). The M95 won the tender and was bought in small numbers for later research and testing. According to the manufacturer, the weapon will be used in 15 states, in military and other state units.

The weapon can be purchased for civilian use in the United States and costs about $ 6,000.
