Live and act
Originally from the East End of London , Keeffe first appeared as an amateur actor in the National Youth Theater of Great Britain after dropping out of school. Among other things, he worked as a factory worker, drinks seller and gravedigger until he found a job as a reporter for a local newspaper in London's East End.
In 1969 his first novel Gadabout appeared , which addressed the social environment of his youth. His first play was Only a Game in 1973 , about the career of a football player. In 1977 he had great success with the trilogy Gimme Shelter, which premiered at the Solo Poly Theater and adopted by the Royal Court Theater , (Gimme Shelter) .
In his socially critical plays, Keeffe repeatedly referred to personal childhood and youth experiences in London's East End on the edge of the affluent society. In his own words, he wanted to give people a voice that nobody else has.
