Barry Jordan

Barry Jordan (* 1957 in Port Elizabeth ) is a German church musician of South African descent. He is cantor and organist at Magdeburg Cathedral .

Education and activity

Jordan studied in Cape Town and graduated with a Bachelor of Music . After 1977 he worked as second organist at the Anglican Cathedral. For four years he was a substitute clarinetist in a South African police band. From 1984 to 1986 he was a music teacher and choir director at a girls' high school. At the same time further studies and a Master of Music in Composition in 1986. SAMRO Prize for Composition.

From 1986 to 1994 he studied composition and church music in Vienna and Lübeck . In 1994 he was appointed church musician at Magdeburg Cathedral . In addition to his concert activities at home and abroad, he taught at the Leipzig University of Music from 2003 to 2006 . In 2004 he was appointed church music director.
