Barsella

Barsella , also Barcella or Barchilla , was a Spanish measure of volume in Alicante and Valencia , Mallorca and Menorca and was used as a common measure of fruit and grain . In different places it also had different contents.

  • in Alicante had 1 Cahiz / Catisse / Caffise = 12 Barsella
  • Mahon in Minorca and Palma in Mallorca
    • 1 Barsella = 8 Almudas = 606 1/6 Parisian cubic inches = 12 liters
    • 6 barcellas = quartera
  • Valencia
    • 1 Barsella = 839 ¾ Parisian cubic inches = 16 13/20 liters
    • 1 Barsella = 4 Almudas = 4 Celemines = 8 Medios = 16 Quarterones
