Bartholomäus "Bartle" Aberer (born August 26, 1719 in Schwarzenberg ; † October 16, 1782 ibid) was an ox host, moneylender, councilor and land manager in Vorarlberg .

Life

Bartle Aberer came from a farming family in the Bregenzerwald . His parents were Nikolaus Melchior Aberer (1683–1741, murdered), who, like his son, was later Landammann, and Margarethe Feurstein (1679–1754). He was married to Margarethe Meusburger (1726–1784) from 1746 and had seven children.

His gravestone has been kept in the Angelika Kauffmann Museum's depot since 2007 .

Act

From 1750 Bartle Aberer was designated as the first councilor (Senatore) of Schwarzenberg, from 1762 mayor of Schwarzenberg. In 1758 Bartle Aberer was portrayed by Angelika Kauffmann . In 1768 he was proposed as Landammann and Landschreiber, but not elected.

Two years later he was sent to Bregenz with the newly elected Landammann Johann Fink to advise the court commission .

In 1773 he was elected Landammann and after four years actually did not want to be re-elected because the office was not financially attractive. He was re-elected and held the title at least nominally until 1780.

In his position as Landammann, he passed the last two death sentences in the Bregenzerwald. The last executions followed in early 1778 and mid-1779.

From 1750 until his death he worked as a moneylender and was able to build up the value of around 1000 cows. Various property purchases in Schwarzenberg are documented in 1754. He also continued his father's restaurant. From 1774 he supported the monastery in Bezau , where his brother was a father.
