Bartimaeus was a blind beggar from Jericho mentioned in the New Testament , whom Jesus Christ healed because of his faith ( Mark 10: 46-52 EU ).

The same incident is reported in the Gospel according to Luke 18 : 35-43 EU , and only one blind man is mentioned; In contrast, in the Gospel according to Matthew 20:30 EU two blind people are mentioned. The name Bartimaeus is only mentioned in the Gospel of Mark .

The name means "son of Timaeus" in Aramaic .

The Bartimaeus story is one of six biblical blind healing stories and one of the most popular children's Bible stories. Some kindergartens and community centers were named after Bartimaeus in the area of the Evangelical Church .

Theological healing of blindness is secondary. Rather, it is about the special faith of Bartimaeus, who addresses Jesus as the “ son of David ” and thus confesses as the Messiah .
