Coordinates: 33 ° 36 ′ S , 137 ° 56 ′ E The District Council of Barunga West is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 1,528 km² and has about 2500 inhabitants (2016).
Barunga West is located at the northern end of the Yorke Peninsula about 160 kilometers northwest of the metropolis of Adelaide . The area includes 22 hamlets and villages: Alford, Barunga North, Bews, Brucefield, Bute, Clements Gap, Fishermans Bay, South Hummocks, Kulpara, Melton, Mona, Mundoora, Ninnes, Nurrondi, Paskeville, Port Broughton, Thomas Plains, Tickera, Wards Hill, Willamulka, Wiltunga and Wokurna.
The administrative headquarters of the council is in Port Broughton on the west coast of the LGA, where about 1000 residents live (2016).

The Barunga West council has ten members, the nine councilors and the chairman and mayor of the council are elected by the residents of the LGA. Barunga West is not divided into districts.
