The Baschtschelak-comb ( Russian Бащелакский хребет ) extends over the Altai Territory and the Altai Republic ( Russia ) in the northwest of the Altai Mountains .
The mountain range lies between the river valleys of Charysch (in the southwest) and Anui (in the northeast). It has a length of 120 km (in NW-SE direction) and a maximum height of 2421 m . The mountains consist of granite and crystalline mica slate . Forest steppe occurs in lower elevations in the north-western part of the mountain range . In the north and northeast is dominated by a blue spruce - Taiga , while in the southern mountainous part larch forests predominate. The subalpine vegetation zone and mountain tundra can be found above 2000 m .
