Basel Ghattas
Basel Ghattas ( Hebrew באסל גטאס, Arabic باسل غطاس, DMG Bāsil Ġaṭṭās , born March 23, 1956 in Nazareth ) is an Israeli politician of the Balad and is a Christian Arab .
Life
Ghattas studied engineering at Technion . From February 2013 to March 2017 he was a member of the Knesset . Ghattas is married with one child and lives in Kfar Rama .
He completed just under two years in prison on May 27, 2019, after a court found him guilty in 2017 of smuggling cell phones into prison for Palestinian inmates. As a parliamentarian, he did not have to face body searches when visiting prison.
