The Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels is a Roman Catholic church in Olean , New York . The church belongs to the bishopric of Buffalo and has the title of a minor basilica .

The congregation, which was created in 1852, received today's church property in the inner city area of ​​Olean as well as a first building and was looked after as a mission church by Franciscans from 1855 . In 1860 the first wooden church was built, measuring 12 by 18 meters, which received the patronage of Mary of the Angels after the church of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Assisi . In 1876 the community received the status of an independent parish. After additions in the 19th century for the growing Irish and German community, today's church was built in 1915 in neo-Gothic style by the architect Emile Uhlrich, who was trained in France. It has a length of 48 meters and a maximum width of 25.5 meters. The two towers with their Celtic crosses reach a height of 46 meters. The structure was constructed from white Pennsylvania marble. Some of the furnishings still come from the previous church. In 1919 today's lead glass windows were installed, and in 1926 the furnishings were renewed. In 2016 the ceiling paintings were completed.

The church was awarded the title of a minor basilica by Pope Francis on June 29, 2017.
