The remains of the Basilica of Son Bou.

The remains of the three-aisled early Christian basilica of Son Bou are located at the eastern end of Son Bou beach on the Spanish Balearic island of Menorca in the southeast of the municipality of Alaior . It is one of only three churches ( Basilica on the Illa del Rei , Basilica des Fornàs de Torelló ) from this period on the island and was discovered and excavated in the 1950s.

Its origin is traced back to the 5th or 6th century. During this time Menorca took on influences from Africa or the Orient . The basilica has the shape of a rectangle of 25 × 12 m and is oriented east-west. At the entrance there is a small anteroom in which the believers who have not yet been baptized gather. The choir with a semicircular apse is in the central area. A special feature is the large cylindrical monolithic baptismal font with a hollowed holy water font in the shape of a cross. The baptismal font is in the northern section of the church, although it should be located at the entrance.

Near the basilica there are burial chambers carved out of the rock of the hypogeum of Son Bou , as well as building remains that may have belonged to a monastery.
