At 253 m, Basilisk Peak is the highest point on the crater rim of Bellingshausen Island in the chain of the South Sandwich Islands .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1971 because the crater "[...] exudes the aura as if the mythical basilisk had its cave there".
