Rojda Felat (* 1980 in al-Hasakah , Syria ) is a Syrian- Kurdish commander of the Kurdish- Arab Democratic Forces of Syria (SDF) and the Kurdish Women's Defense Units (YPJ).

Life

In 2011 she dropped out of her studies in Arabic literature at the University of al-Hasakah and joined the YPG. Felat then fought against the terrorist organization IS . She justifies her use as follows:

"My main goal is to free the Kurdish and Syrian women from the shackles of traditional society and control, as well as freeing all of Syria from terrorism and tyranny."

Her brother Mezul also joined the YPG. He died in a street bomb explosion in 2013.

Felat describes herself as a radical feminist . She is the commander of a total of 15,000 Kurdish fighters. As her role models, she names Napoleon , Bismarck and Saladin and also the Kurdish folk heroine Arin Mirkan , who preferred to kill herself in the battle for Kobanê than fall into the hands of IS. Among other things, Felat fought in skirmishes in al-Hasakah Governorate and for the city of Ash-Shaddadi , which was captured after three days.
