The Diekirch basketball club is a Luxembourgish basketball club from Diekirch .

history

Beginnings

Although a group of students regularly played basketball in Diekirch even before the Second World War , it was not until 1955 that the Diekirch basketball club , which was also known as BBCD , was the first basketball club in town to be founded. After the team was allowed to start in the second division, two years after the club was founded, they were promoted to the highest league in Luxembourg, today's Diekirch League .

Establishment in the first division

In the 1960s Diekirch always played a good role there, came third several times and reached the cup final for the Luxembourg Cup three times, each of which was lost. The team never won the championship, which was mainly due to the triumphant basketball players from BBC Etzella , who dominated the league in the 1960s.

Transfers, merger and dissolution

At the end of the 1960s, those responsible for the club were striving to achieve higher goals and for the first time signed foreign players, mainly Americans, who were stationed in nearby Bitburg . This made Diekirch the first Luxembourg club to make such transfers. Despite these investments, the hoped-for title wins did not materialize, so that in the early 1970s the BBCD joined forces with the CS Standard , a track and field club from Diekirch founded a few years earlier, and adopted its name. Shortly after the merger, the team took part in the European Korać Cup competition, where it had no chance in the first round against 1. FC Bamberg and lost both games (56:82 and 66:78).

The association was dissolved in 1982 due to financial problems.

Start-up

In 1990, eight years after its dissolution, the club was re-established and started a new start in the fifth division. It shouldn't be enough to return to the upper house until today, but at least the club has established itself again in the third division.

Since the 2016/17 season, only youth teams have taken part in matches.

The home games are played in the sports hall Rue Joseph Merten .
