Esther Dale

Esther Dale (born November 10, 1885 in Beaufort , South Carolina , † July 23, 1961 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress and singer .

Life

Esther Dale attended Leland and Gray Seminary in Townshend , Vermont and later studied singing in Berlin , where she also started a career as a singer. Back in the United States, she began acting and made her debut in New York City in 1934, starring alongside James Stewart , Mildred Natwick and Joshua Logan in the play Carry Nation on Broadway, written by Frank McGrath . In the same year she made her debut as a film actress in the crime drama Crime Without Passion . In total, she played in over 100 film and television productions by the end of her career in 1960 and was occasionally seen on the theater stage.

On July 23, 1961, Dale died at the age of 75 from complications from an operation at the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles. Her husband, the author Arthur J. Beckhard, died just three months earlier . Both are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Townshend.
