Dimensions of the basket

In basketball , the ball must be put into the basket . The player can do this by various throwing techniques , e.g. B. can be achieved by dunking or a layup . The basket exists twice on every official field, as each team has to defend its own basket.

The basket hangs at a height of 3.05 meters above the playing field and has a diameter of 0.45 meters. The board to which the basket is attached is 1.05 meters high and 1.80 meters wide.

The net, which forms the actual basket, slows the ball falling through and thus fulfills two functions: on the one hand, the hit made is more clearly recognizable for the player, referee and spectator, and on the other hand, the ball comes back in a predictable way, ideally in a vertical line in the game.
