Bassianus (Caesar)

Bassianus († 314 or 316 ) was a brother and designated under the Emperor of the Roman Emperor Constantine I .

The Senator Bassianus was with for 313 or 314 Anastasia married a half-sister of Constantine. Designated as Caesar (lower emperor) for Italy , Bassianus soon afterwards began to intrigue against his brother-in-law. Presumably it was instigated by his brother Senecio , a confidante of the Eastern Emperor Licinius . Constantine had Bassianus executed for high treason . Licinius refused his request to extradite Senecio, which led to a break between the two emperors and, as a result, to civil war .
