The Bataljon Sparta ( German Bataillon Sparta ) is a military unit of the proclaimed state People's Republic of Donetsk . She became known among other things through her former leader, Arsen Pawlow (nickname "Motorola"). Since his death, the unit has been commanded by Vladimir Zhoga .

The name of the unit probably comes from the Metro 2033 universe . It was never officially confirmed.

The battalion was formed from volunteers who previously served in an anti-tank squad led by Arsen Pavlov . The unit was accused of various war crimes , which were documented, among other things, in videos.

The battalion was used in the following combat operations as part of the war in Ukraine :

2014 in the Battle of Illovaisk.
2015 in the second battle for Donetsk airport .
2015 in the battle for Debaltseve .
In March 2016 in a skirmish near Dokuchaievsk.
In September 2016, the unit was deployed in the crackdown on an expected coup near Slavyansk.
