The Best Damn Thing is a song by the Canadian singer Avril Lavigne , which was released in June 2008 in some European countries as the fourth and final single from her third album The Best Damn Thing , which was released in April 2007 .
The song was written by Avril Lavigne and Butch Walker and produced by Butch Walker.
Text and music
Daryl Sterdan from the Jam! described the song as having a " cheerleader beat" and a "killer chorus".
In the bridge, Avril Lavigne spells her name in the style of an American football chant : "Give me an A", "Give me a V", ...
Alex Macpherson of The Guardian wrote that Lavigne " sings about the period " on this track . (Lavigne sings: "I hate it when a guy doesn't understand / Why I don't want to hold his hand at a certain time of the month".)
Music video
The music video was shot on February 28, 2008, directed by Wayne Isham , and premiered in April. In this video Lavigne plays three different roles / characters: the leader of the cheerleading troop called Team Avril and two singers / musicians, one with long blonde hair and the other with a short pink wig.
Avril's brother Matthew and her former band members Evan Taubenfeld and Devin Bronson can be seen in this music video.

The song reached number 64 in Germany. In the United States, it rose to number 7 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart in the week of May 5, 2007 .
