Music video
The music video for "My Happy Ending" was written and directed by MTV and Grammy winner Meiert Avis. It was shot in Bushwick , Brooklyn and Harlem , New York City . The video begins with Lavigne walking down a street and entering a movie theater, where she finds the film as a montage of her memories of a particular relationship she had. At first the memories (in full color) are happy and show Lavigne in the park with her boyfriend when he hands her a flower and they laugh together. They are also shown fooling around in a laundromat. Lavigne sings “So much for my happy ending” and the memories lose their color. Lavigne and her boyfriend are in bed together when she looks at him and he stares away (obviously affected by a disagreement).
The relationship culminates in a grocery store during the song's bridge , where her boyfriend upsets her and insists he talk to her. He grabs her and tries to pull her into his embrace. Full of strength, she turns around and pushes him away. She runs out of the store and down the street (like at the beginning of the video) and to a guitar store where she picks up a guitar and goes to the roof of the building where she performs with her band. There she walks past her incomprehensible friend without looking at him. The theatrical film is watering and the memories end, the last few seconds of the video remain as a close-up of Lavigne in the theater as she tries to decide if the breakup is finally happy. In the end, three other girls present in the restaurant leave Lavigne, who know about the breakup, who are now friends.
Lavigne said of the video, "It's about a relationship that doesn't work out and saying goodbye to all the memories and all that stuff." When asked if the video for "My Happy Ending" actually has a happy ending, Lavigne said, "I don't know if the video has a happy ending. It kind of depends on how you look at it. One way is because me and "the guy" in the video are no longer together, and I think that's a better thing. "

My Happy Ending "received generally positive reviews. David Browne of Entertainment Weekly magazine commented," Lavigne herself sounds more burdened, the "Sk8er Boi" on the first album turned out to be a selfish, mean guy who treats her like crap. "

Says PopMatters, "The second single," My Happy Ending, "bears a distinct resemblance to several recent hits, particularly Michelle Branch's" Everywhere "and Vanessa Carlton's " A Thousand Miles. "Sk8er Boi's ticklish good mood was made up of sardonic regret subsumed by "My Happy Ending". "
