Vasafua is a small reef island in the reef rim of the Atoll Funafuti , Tuvalu , about 6 km north of Tefala .

The island was badly hit by cyclone Pam . The coconut trees were washed away and the island has been a sandbank ever since. It is located in the Funafuti Conservation Area , which was founded in 1996 with the aim of preserving the local nature.
Right next door in the northwest is the Te Ava Fuagea Canal ( ⊙ , also: Ava Amelia, Fuagea Deep Pass). The deep and narrow passage is up to 18.3 m deep and 160 m wide and forms the clearest separation from the northwestern part of the atoll . About three kilometers to the northwest is the island of Fuafatu . To the south, in the same area of the reef crown, the island of Fuagea joins.
