history

In 1905, the “Aid Association for Crippled, Stupid, Epileptic, Deaf-Mute and Blind Children in the Principality of Waldeck-Pyrmont ” was founded in Arolser Castle . The initiative came from the castle preacher Karl Knoll, who, with the support of Princess Bathildis von Waldeck-Pyrmont and in close cooperation with the church, the state health system and the regional women's association, founded the association called "Waldeck'sche Krüppelhilfe" from 1909 onwards. In 1912, the Bathildisheim, named after the protector, became the first house for 30 people with disabilities. The people living there learned handicrafts and attended school or received special lessons. In the following years the number of people looked after grew to 120, so that the rooms became narrow. In 1928 the "Waldfrieden House" was built near Neu-Berich .

During the time of National Socialism , the facility struggled with state harassment. Some residents fell victim to the National Socialist euthanasia .

Bathildisheim eV has grown continuously since the Second World War: Existing offers were expanded, new areas were added: in 1952 a home for apprentices , in 1970 school and boarding school buildings and new workshops , in 1977 a house for severely and severely disabled adults and the associated supply buildings. In 1981 the vocational training center in North Hesse could be moved into. In 1986 the first adults moved into an assisted living facility .

The Bathildisheim workshops are expanded in 1996 to include a new building in Bad Arolsen. The day work starts in 2013 as a project in Volkmarsen. The day work is now a permanent option for people with complex disabilities who are not entitled to a workshop space.

In 2003, the Karl-Preising-Schule received its current name and a new location in Rosenthal near Frankenberg .

In 2011, the Bad Arolser Diakonie-Zentrum (badz), a cooperation between the Bathildisheim and other diaconal providers of help for people in difficult circumstances, opened.

Remedial educational living has become heavily decentralized in recent years with the housing options in Volkmarsen, Wolfhagen and Bad Arolsen as well as the building project in Sachsenhausen. The offers in the outpatient and inpatient area were multiplied and individualized with the focus on the client. The Bathildisheim is committed to a diverse life in the communities and districts with corresponding inclusive housing and work offers, inclusive schools and inclusive education.

According to the company, around 800 people will be employed in 2019 (as of 2019).
