Bathysauropsis gracilis is a deep sea fish from the order of the lizard fish relatives (Aulopiformes). It lives around the world on the soils of the oceans of the southern hemisphere at depths of 1055 to 2835 meters.

Bathysauropsis gracilis becomes 29 to 32 centimeters long. It is elongated, the head and trunk are purple to blackish-brown in color, the fins are lighter. The short dorsal fin sits in the front half of the body and is supported by ten to eleven fin rays, the anal fin by eleven fin rays. A small adipose fin is present.
