The Wars series is a series of video games from the Japanese manufacturer Nintendo . Most of the previous games were developed by Intelligent Systems .
Gameplay
These are turn -based strategy games in which the player is given command of various military units such as infantry , tanks , warships , attack helicopters or fighter planes . The player can compete in different game modes either against computer opponents or human players. Round by round (one round corresponds to one day) the opponents move their troops one after the other over the map, mostly with the aim of destroying all enemy troops or taking over the enemy headquarters. The terrain has an influence on the movement radius and cover of the units, for example ground troops are better protected in the forest than on the open road . In the “fog of war” it also affects the field of vision of the troops, so ground units hidden in the forest are only visible from close proximity, while the field of vision of infantry units increases when they climb a mountain . The player also receives daily funds , the amount of which depends on the number of bases taken. Bases are neutral or opposing cities , factories , ports and airports that can be captured by infantry units. In allied cities and factory bases, ground troops receive rations and are repaired for funds. New ground troops are also set up in factories against funds. Sea units receive rations in ports and are repaired against funds, and new sea units are set up there against funds. In airports, flight units receive rations and are repaired against funds, and new flight units are set up there against funds. The games are given further depth by the fact that ammunition is used up during battle between the units and this can be used up completely. Gasoline is also required to move the units. Both goods are replenished via rations. The units receive these either within their own base or they are supplied with supplies by mobile troop transports.
The tactical possibilities in the Wars games are very diverse, but the games represent a well-balanced mixture of complexity and manageability.
chronology
The series only became known outside of Japan with Advance Wars , which was released in 2001 for the Game Boy Advance . The predecessors remained exclusive to Japan.
