The (covered) battery Doss di Sponde was a barrage of the Austro-Hungarian land forces and was built in the years 1860–62 on a hill south of the Buco di Vela road block . The plant belonged to the western part of the Trento fortress and had the task of securing and supporting Buco di Vela, with which it was connected by a postern . It was also intended as an observation point and had to ensure the connection between Trento and the Riva fortress (via a light signal station) . It was part of the Austrian border fortifications .

Built of dolomite and limestone , the battery was already completely out of date at the beginning of the First World War and was only considered to be “shatterproof, less storm-free”. This means that only an infantry attack could have been repulsed without artillery support .

The armament originally consisted of two 12 cm M 61 casemate cannons in a depression mount (which are also listed for 1914) and, at the start of the war, two 9 cm M75 field cannons.

Doss di Sponde was disarmed in 1915; its reinforcement was moved to the artillery base Castellar della Groa, located directly above the blockhouse. Like Buco di Vela, it belonged to Defense Section No. V of the Trento Fortress. The replacement positions for the Buco di Vela road block and the Doss di Sponde blockhouse were (viewed from north to south) the Soprassasso-West cavern battery, the two Soprassasso-South field batteries set in covered positions and the large and heavily armored artillery base in Castellar della Groa, in which the guns of the disarmed battery Candriai (Defense Section No. VI) were partially suspended.

The complex is privately owned and is in pristine condition. According to the current state of knowledge, entry is not possible.
