Batticaloa Lighthouse ( Sinhala මඩකලපුව ප්රදීපාගාරය ) is a lighthouse ( English Lighthouse ) in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka .
The 28 m high round tower was built in 1913 by the British colonial administration in the north of Batticaloa . The beacon marks the entrance from the Bengal Gulf to the Batticaloa Lagoon .
During the civil war , the beacon was neglected by the terrorists and was temporarily out of order. Although the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake caused severe damage to the east coast of Sri Lanka, the lighthouse was only slightly damaged by the tsunami . With the help of foreign organizations, the lighthouse was restored and put into operation again in 2008.
The beacon has a fire height of 27 m and shows a white flash as an identifier with a return of 3 seconds (Fl.W.3s).
