Vita

Batzdorf Castle

At the beginning of the 1980s, some of the residents of Schloss Batzdorf joined forces to enable the castle, which appeared to be in ruins, to be preserved. After some measures to secure the building fabric, the first cultural events took place in the castle in 1988.

After the fall of the Wall, an association was founded with the aim of promoting the castle renovation and filling the castle with cultural life. In 1993 the founding concert of the court orchestra, made up of musicians from Berlin, Dresden and Cologne, took place.

Since 1993, the court orchestra at Batzdorf Castle has hosted the Batzdorf Baroque Festival every summer. Although they began as a project of friends and musicians without a budget, they were able to establish themselves on a fixed date in the Dresden cultural scene.

In addition to the focus of the ensemble, the Dresden opera and oratorio repertoire of the 18th century, the program was expanded with standard works such as Bach's B minor Mass.

In addition to the annual Baroque Festival at Batzdorf Palace, the ensemble also performed at the Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival , the Halle Handel Festival , the Bayreuth Baroque Festival and the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival .
